Sunday Scribblings: Chronicles 1/28/2007

The Heart Is A Chronicle of Joy

They come into our lives totally unexpected. At times when we feel as complete in our being as we can get. We don’t desire another soul. Not just people, but animals and characters. When we write and create the images of fictional beings, they become real to us, they talk to us.

Animals. You don’t think you want a pet and you could list the reasons why you don’t want them, but when the unconditional love looks you in the eyes, you cannot resist. In a few short amount of time, their lives are your lives and you couldn’t imagine bedding down at night without them.

People who waft in and out, all leaving a mark or a memory, good or bad. Scents, sounds and visuals bring them to mind from the depths.
In our quiet moments, when we are able to close out the world, if even for a brief moment, our heart opens up like a great tome, flips to a random page, and shows us what has been written there. We return to an age long past or recently inscribed, and there is joy. To know we knew them, to remember their trace on our lives.

My daughter has a bulldog that sets her head against her knee and looks up at her with so much love I start to cry.
